Trademark Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

“OKForest™”, the OKForest logo, and the edition names when used with the OKForest brand (“OKForest Tree™”, “OKForest Grove™”, and “OKForest Canopy™”) are trademarks of Preneur LLC (“OKForest”, “we”). This policy explains how you may use them.

OKForest’s open-source code (the OKForest CLI and OKForest Validate) is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. That license covers the code, not the name: section 6 grants no permission to use our trademarks. You are free to use, modify, and share the code. Our marks exist so people can tell what is genuinely OKForest.

Uses that are always OK

You don’t need to ask us before you:

  • refer to OKForest truthfully, for example “validates trees with the OKForest CLI”, “works with OKForest”, or “compatible with OKForest”;
  • redistribute unmodified releases of okforest, @okforest/okf, and @okforest/validate under their original names;
  • write articles, tutorials, reviews, videos, or talks about OKForest;
  • list OKForest in a directory, registry, or comparison.

When you do, use the name as it is (don’t abbreviate, translate, or merge it into another word). Don’t imply that we sponsor or endorse you.

Uses that need our permission

Ask us first before you:

  • use “OKForest”, or a confusingly similar name (such as “OKForest Pro” or “OKForest Cloud”), in the name of a product, hosted service, company, package, fork, or extension;
  • use the OKForest logo, or a modified version of it, except to link to OKForest’s own pages;
  • register a domain name or social media account that contains “OKForest”;
  • suggest a partnership, certification, or endorsement that doesn’t exist.

Forks

Forks are welcome under the Apache License 2.0. A fork must use a different name and logo, and should state plainly that it is not OKForest and is not affiliated with Preneur LLC. Saying a fork is “based on OKForest” is fine.

The Open Knowledge Format

The Open Knowledge Format (OKF) is an open specification published by Google. OKForest is independent of Google and is not endorsed by Google. Anyone may build tools for OKF; this policy covers only the OKForest names and logo.

Attribution

Where it’s practical, please include the line: “OKForest™ is a trademark of Preneur LLC.”
